Last winter I actually took a trip to Harvard's geological museum and was really amazed by what our great earth can create, and Carly Waito really transformed it to paper with her amazing oil paintings. Lately I've been planning and booking my flights home for the holidays and I came across Cargo Collective. They created a T-Shirt design that is printed with metallic ink so when scanned at the aiport security check point, the security personal sees how you really feel. Now, I believe in full body scanning. These people see hundreds of naked bodies a day, they are not concerned with my extra 5 pounds of turkey dinner. They're just looking for danger. So I say, scan away. I would love to get a shirt printed with "Hello There" or "Go Ahead, Take a Look" just to see their reaction.

Lately I can not help myself but to paint my nails. There’s nothing like looking down and seeing a beautiful manicure, and I always notice other manicures too. One trend that is really helping the cause are the Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail strips. I couldn't believe how easy these were to use. As long as you really follow the directions to a T they will turn out great, and last forever. Mine started to chip after two weeks! two weeks! Where else does that happen?

It's about time I get back into the swing of things! I'm not sure about blog etiquette but I took a long sabbatical from blog posting and I decided to rejoin my previous blog instead of creating a new one. Proper? Not sure but it just seems right :)
So there is so much to catch up on! I've had a big move and an even bigger career change. I am now living full time on Martha's Vineyard and am starting my own event planning firm. Very exciting! This is more of a Welcome Home post and I can not wait to start blogging again!

This is where the crafty side of me kicks in and I go home on a random Tuesday night to paint canvas' on the kitchen floor. I was a little worried that my $30 investment was slowly going down the drain, but I actually ended up liking it enough to hang it on my wall.

My Mom has always said that in her past life she had to be from the Mediterranean, solely based on the fact that she loves their cuisine. Growing up I never realized that most 8 year olds did not eat tabboule, tahini sauce and use lemon juice in everything. Even Dr. Oz says that a Mediterranean diet is the healthiest diet out there.

So in her honor, and in my hunger, I made her version of sour cream. Approximately 1 cup plain yogurt, juice of one lemon, pinch of salt, and my added touch, fresh mint. All you have to do is mix it up and walla, a dead ringer for sour cream in an a lot healthier form.

Now because I often cook for one, my grocery shopping is limited. So since I started with sour cream, I had to find something else that would go with it. And why not sweet potatoes?

(I promise, promise its really good.)

Toast up some pita bread, and i have a meal, or a really big snack.

(Here's a tip, the first time I made this I used regular ol' Plain yogurt, none of that fat free stuff, and I have to say that that batch was a lot better.)

20x200 is a great website geared to selling artwork on the cheap. The creator, Jen Beckman realized that it was difficult for artist to reach art lovers. So much so that 20x200's motto is

(limited editions × low prices) + the internet = art for everyone

They sell 200 8"x10" prints for $20 each. Sizes and prices go up from there. There are pieces added every week so there's always something new. She has really come up with a great concept that should be embraced. It's hard enough when you walk into someones house and you see the same Pottery Barn print that you have in your house. Or even worse, the classic COLLEGE poster that has somehow withstood the test of time.

I've been dreaming of the day that I can get a little puppy of my own. And when that day comes, I might just get a Caviler King Charles Spaniel. Ever since our trip to Maine to visit the beautiful Ashley, Adam and Max, their Caviler King Charles Spaniel, I have decided this is the dog for me.

However, my current run with keeping things alive hasn't gone over very well lately. Having that I just recently killed my herb garden, (that I grew from seeds none the less) I don't know if I'm quite ready for a puppy. But when I grow up :) I will search out for one of these little guys.

I love this idea! It's a hidden jewelry box behind a piece of artwork. Jewelry storage has always been a thorn in my side. How do you organize the yards of chains and gazillion bracelets without it looking like a metal graveyard?

I hate to admit this but I don't like very many female singers. I don't know what it is. I mean I did grow up on Whitney Houston and the such so I can appreciate them. But something about a mans singing voice just sounds so much better to me. Which is why going to a Corinne Baily Rae concert is such a big deal.

She is one of the best singers of our time. Her voice is so unique and soulful that she makes any song sound amazing. I suggest you check her out.

And I suggest not depending on an iPhone camera. She looked a lot bigger and closer in person...but hey at least I got to see her!

Boston Water Boil Order

Some how, on the hottest day of the year so far in Boston, a pipe burst and we are all on a water ban for the next three days. So my life was reduced to this

Lately my short term memory has been shot! I hate writing that because some say I'm just putting negative thoughts into the universe, but really it has been happening A LOT. I've even loaded up on my Ginkgo Biloba pills in hopes for a quick recovery.

The point of this rant is to say that I missed a forum last night at Harvard Business School because of my memory. The forum topic was not what interested me, but the forum speakers.

Micheal Kors and Anna Wintor!

Did I really forget to go see these people!!?? Michael Kors is only BFF with Heidi Klum on Project Runway. And Anna Wintor only runs the entire fashion world! (The woman who The Devil Wears Prada is based on.)

The forum was super hard to get into, and somehow, with my name on a waiting list, I got a seat. And I missed it. I missed it. I complained out loud for about 20 minutes but its really been festering for a good 24 hours now. OMG.

Rain Rain Go Away...

The rain has finally ceased in Boston. We had a couple terrible days of rain that just seemed like it wouldn't stop. A few of my friends had some SERIOUS damage to their homes. One homeowner had 4 feet of flooding! 4 feet!

But today is sunny and bright with a high of 61 degrees! Coming from Florida that's a chilly day, but after a week of rain and 6 months of cold weather, this is a beautiful very warm day.

In celebration of Spring, (might be calling it too early, but hey I'm living in the moment) I think we should all make these Pom Poms from Martha Stewart. The colors she used are just so bright and cheery, they could put any one in a Spring frame of mind.

51 Birch Street

While bed rest for 14 days I've rented A LOT of movies with the help of my recovery team. (Shout out to my dear mom, sister and APM :)

One that really got to me was 51 Birch Street. It's hard to explain exactly what this movie is about. But perhaps in the words of Doug Block, the creator, it's best described.

"Do we ever really know our parents? If we were suddenly given the chance to know all about them, would we take it? And is it ever too late to establish a deeper connection with them?"

I think the main topic in this documentary is getting to know our parents as real people. However, for me this movie had a different take. For starters, its about a marriage. And the three different views to any marriage. One, what the outsider sees, two the husband's view and three the wife's view.

We all know that 50% of marriages end up in divorce. I've often wondered how this happens. Do people give up? Do you really fall out of love? What makes a marriage work? And are there solid answers to these questions or is it all just subjective?

With this in mind, my friends and I have all wanted to make sure we end up on the better side of divorce. And in this quest to be eternally happy, I've watched couples that I see as successful. But again all I have is the outsiders point of view.

For a long time I thought you found your one and only soul mate and that was it. Happy Ever After. We're almost taught this as little girls. But now I know that's not the way it is.

I think the main answer I've found is that it takes work. And a lot of it.

And to find someone who makes you laugh.

And someone who you can have endless conversations with (hopefully all being the same person. just kidding.)

Beyond that I'm still learning. And maybe that's part of the secret, to always be open to learning.

These little votive holders are made of welded steel and I think their tilt makes any arrangement very pretty.

I just died when I saw this post on Rockstar Diaries. Apparently their Mini English Bulldog sneaks into the fireplace and just hangs out. I'm thinking he might be trying to stay warm or maybe he wants a better view of the fire? Either way it is by far the cutest dog ever!

I have had a secret girl crush and I didn't even know it!

It all started with a little too much time on my hands...

When I'm on the internet and I see pictures of outfits, rooms, shoes, landscapes or just about anything I find interesting I save it to a file to revisit later. And with the winter blues upon us, I've been saving pictures of cute summer outfits to get me in gear for Spring. (Still seems like eternity till that day but no negativity needed.)

Unknowingly I've been collecting pictures of Viviana Volpicella and her fabulous outfits. She is the assistant to Anna Dello Russo for Vogue Nippon and I discovered on Habitually Chic that many of my pictures were of Viviana. I've seen her on other websites such at The Sartorialist, and Garance Dore and never put two and two together that this was the same girl. Not to mention that she always looks likes shes having a great time and pulls off all of her looks flawlessly.

This one is by far my favorite.

Missed Connections

Lately I have been seeing Sophie Blackall all over the internet. Most recently over at Oh Joy!. Sophie Blackall reads the saucy Missed Connections posts on Craigs List New York and illustrates them. I mean who hasn't casually scanned the Missed Connections? Either to kill time or just wondering if your Starbucks crush was also crushing on you?

(Ok, Ok back when I lived in Brookline, I had a secret subway crush that also rode the 8:00 am Green Line, there I admitted it.)

Cocktail Party 2010

Last weekend APM and I went to a cocktail party with a lot of his high school friends. It was definitely a rousing good time. A classic 20 something party, with a few apps, a keg and a guitar guy to cap off the night.

But what I'm most excited about is that we took pictures with my Holga Camera! This little camera is my new favorite hobby. For all of you that think I'm talking nonsense, a Holga is an 1980's plastic toy camera manufactured in China. And for all of you that have seen me whip this bad boy out at parties, I promise I wasn't crazy.

It uses 120mm film, the film we used before 35mm, which is a little more difficult to find let alone develop. (yes I said develop, when I tell people I have to go develop film they think I'm crazy.) The camera lets in a crazy amount of light. Hence the blackish border. But it takes some of the most amazing, interesting pictures. I have to purchase the film in one place and get it developed and printed in another, but these will be some of my most cherished pictures to come.

I love to craft. But I hate the word craft. Sounds so chincy, but I guess my hobby is considered crafting until it looks really good, then I can call it art.
Anyways last week I had to search Boston to find grey ribbon for work. My boss said, "Oh, you can just stop by Jacobson Floral for that." Casually I say, "Oh sure, that's a good idea. " Meanwhile having no idea what Jacobson Floral is, I do some Googling. Much to my surprise I find out it is this huge warehouse on Albany Street in the South End. When I lived in the South End I drove by it every single day on my way to work and somehow never thought to stop in. Apparently it is an exclusive, members only type of place. (By exclusive I mean wholesale.) As soon as you walk in you mostly see fake flowers and a lot of boxes. But after a few minutes of searching, I ended up in Crafter's Heaven...

Case and Point.

And after walking around for a while more, I noticed that this place is really amazing. There are a million different types of vases, decorations or whatever your heart desires. My heart was saying "Craft away Jessica, Craft away."

So I know it is now 6 days into the new year. And I know that it's a little late for a New Years post but hey, everyone is still saying Happy New Year, so I will too. I don't really make new years resolutions because I just can't keep them.

However I have compiled a list of things I would like to see happen in Twenty-Ten.

1. Health for my entire family and all of my friends.

2. Operation Avocado to be complete.

3. Visit my beautiful friend Shavon in beautiful Seattle for her wedding.

4. Go back to St. John! I need the sun right about now!

5. Finally join a yoga studio and not feel guilty for spending money on my health.

6. Visit my family way more often.

Look at what my dad got me for Christmas! It's perfect. So I think this deserves another list of 5 Blissful Moments.

1. Being in a warm bed.

2. Discovering a new band and not knowing how you lived this long with out their music.

3. A brownie and a cup of coffee when its cold outside.

4. Completely empty trash cans. Is that weird? Just knowing that I will not have to empty that thing for a while somehow makes me really happy.

5. Watching a good Miami Dolphins game when they are reeeeeeaaally close to winning and every play is edge of your seat exciting.

P.S. Sorry Dad but I think I might paint this a new color. Perhaps with a white lacquer finish? I'll keep you posted on the DYI.

Sex and the City 2 Trailer

Look what came out the other day! I am a die hard Sex and the City fan, I have seen every episode a number of times and I own every season on DVD. Needless to say I was thrilled for the first movie. And truthfully, I was a little disappointed. It was the same girls and the same story but in a cheesy movie format. But I have hopes for this movie. And I know I will watch it and love it and I will buy the DVD the day it comes out.

I have found that a lot of people don't like Sex in the City. That their lives seems so unrealistic and the girls are always complaining. But I can tell you that the show is very realistic. While living in Boston my life has consisted of meeting friends for brunch and dinners at the newest, trendiest restaurants. That shopping on city streets with fabulous window displays do happen. And touring the city for wine tastings do occur. And this is only in Boston. Imagine the possibilities in New York.

And guess what girls do when they get together? They talk about their lives. I guess it could come off as complaining but who else are you going to talk to about life? Our boyfriends and husbands don't necessarily like to hear complaining but most importantly they can't relate. For example, I was telling APM that I found this fabulous Max Azria dress on sale in the Boston store for $90. And when I went to the Max Azria store in Miami it was full price at $300. And his response "That's great, but tell Christina because she might appreciate it better." Honest answer. And guess what? She was a lot more excited then he was. It's true. We have our girlfriends for a reason.

So the moral of the story is, you know where I will be come May 2010 with who else but my girlfriends.

A White Christmas in the Vineyard

The weekend before Christmas I was visiting in the Vineyard and we had an absolutly beautiful snow fall. It was coined "Blizzard 2009" but I imagine it could be worse. However, I did not plan for it and I didn't bring any snow gear with me so I stayed inside by the fire all day. Not a bad gig. But I did find out that a 14" snowfall + a warm fire + 6 hungry people =

Parmesan Black Pepper Crackers

The other day I wanted to make something but didn't want to put too much effort into it. (isn't that awful?) In the meantime I saw this recipe on Cupcakes and Cashmere for Parmesan Black Pepper Crackers. Which linked me to this Food Network recipe. Which to my surprise, was crafted by Ina Garden. Who is quite possibly my favorite celebrity chef.
They were so simple to make and it was so neat to know that I can actually make crackers. They were very light, almost a shortbread texture, and absolutely delicious. Also, Emily at Cupcakes and Cashmere suggested adding a few drops of water and buttering the baking tray. Both things I tried and both things I also suggest. I took them over to my well experienced cooking friend Kelly, and she even liked them too!

(I know it's awful that I used dried thyme instead of fresh thyme, but hey we're in a recession.)

I haven't been up to date with my post lately. A very busy work week = less blogging.

However, I do have to say that I am very excited for Christmas! I get to fly home and have Christmas the way its supposed to be. In 85 degree weather that is. My family and I celebrate Christmas at midnight soon after Santa arrives...a.k.a. my uncle shaking jingle bells and giving a really good rendition of "Ho Ho Ho". In case your wondering why he pretends to be Santa, its for the little ones, who still believe he exist.

{Do you remember really believing Santa existed? Like you really pictured this jolly man circumnavigating the world and stopping at your house to deliver gifts, all possible due to different time zones. Such good memories.}

Then after opening all the gifts, we eat a HUGE meal at approximately 12:30 a.m. Then we go to bed and get to sleep in as late as we want. After that, you wake up and have leftovers of the food you ate a few hours ago. Such a good time, and I can not wait to do it all over again this year!

What to pack: Bathing Suit. Check. Flip Flops. Check. Sunscreen. Check. I love it.

Coming to a Mailbox Near You

Usually when I plan a DYI project, I get really excited and go out and purchase all the "ingredients" for the project... but then it all just sits there...and nothing gets done...and it becomes a fabric/glue/ribbon graveyard, just waiting to be made into something fabulous.

So this year I decided to make my own Christmas cards. I'm not going to lie, I was worried these cards would not get done in time. But its amazing how productive I am when I have a deadline. So one night of watching Real Housewives of Orange County later I finished the cards. And guess what? I didnt like them that much. A little too bland. No life. Looked like an art project you use to keep kids busy in school.

So I went out and bought ribbon. One more night of watching Tabatha's Salon Takeover later I was satisfied with the cards.

Hello weekend! I thought you had left me, but alas, you made it back again.

I actually have exciting plans this weekend!

It starts with a fun, non stressful night with the wonderful APM.

Then I get to wake up early tomorrow for a manicure.

Next is a fantastic lunch with Helen at Aquitaine in the South End.

Finishing off Saturday with a classic Ugly Christmas Sweater Party with friends.

Then to top it all off, Sunday I'm going to my first official wedding!

(as an adult, if I want to call myself that)

I'm really not that interested in weddings, I hear they're never really all that fun. But I have a strange hankering that this wedding will be very exciting. I believe its the first of APM's friends to officially tie the knot, and knowing these boys, I'm sure everyone will be riled up.

(And yes the most exciting part about a wedding, for me anyways, is that I get to wear a fancy dress that I never wear because nobody seems to care too much about what they wear in Boston. Mostly how big their brain is. And that's not necessarily a bad thing.)

Give up? Its Blackwater Scotch Eggs. Still have no idea what that is?

Me neither, but apparently APM was very gun-ho about trying it.

Inside these little fried balls of goodness are 2 hard boiled eggs wrapped in a pork sausage, spices & breadcrumb coating, then deep fried until golden brown.

And I know you are dyyyyyiiiing to try it. So I'm going to fill you in on where to get such a fine cuisine. Stop by the Banshee in Dorchester. I'm sure they'll have enough to go around.

Fat Kid: Part 2

APM and I had a long glorious and glutenous Thanksgiving weekend. It all started with a beautiful flower that crossed the great Atlantic Ocean to get to me (or is it just Nantucket Sound?) From Chilmark, MA I present a hydrangea :)

We started the weekend with bread pudding from Pie in the Sky. No Photo available, however, it was delicious. But here is a photo of the bakery.

We then traveled to Whole Foods to get ingredients for Wild-Mushroom Bread Pudding. And guess who we saw?! Steve Tyler! Freaking Steve Tyler! I WISH I took a picture. I always feel stupid taking pictures of celebrities in their normal life, but now I wish I had a photo of me and Steve hanging out in Whole Foods. Oh well, he's only a memory now...

Next was dinner at Salsa's in Southie. No picture available. But please go just for their sangria.

Thanksgiving morning started with fresh toasted ciabatta bread, raspberry preserve, local honey, fresh blackberries, parmesan cheese and espresso. (sometimes I pretend we're french)

Then we had a Thanksgiving feast. And I didn't take a single picture! All that food and no proof of it. I need to step up my blogger game.

Friday was a long lazy day. A lot of laying around doing nothing. Very relaxing.

Saturday we got up early and drove down to Martha's Vineyard. It is absolutely beautiful this time of year. Few cars and only your favorite people.

I spent a few hours Saturday afternoon with Eniko. She is hands down one of my favorite people. We could chat for hours if life allowed us. She has taught me so much and I'm sure many other life lessons will come of our friendship (as well as more Spiked Cider and Pumpkin Pie we had on Saturday.)

Sunday morning was spent at my favorite brunch restaurant. Park Corner Bistro. I'm a little partial to this place because I worked here for a while, but Jesse really is an amazing chef and I love everything he cooks up. And as the owner/chef he really makes you feel welcome in his restaurant.

APM had the Eggs Benedict.

And I had Papas Platos with a side of Bloody Mary. In case you don't know, Papas Platos is a pile of fried potatoes, fresh guacamole, sour cream, caramelized onions, grilled bacon, fresh pico de gallo, and two eggs, any way you like them. a.k.a. heaven. And his Bloody Marys are The Best I have ever had. I'm not a big fan of this morning cocktail, but Jesse's recipe is health in a glass. A couple hours and a couple Nutty Irishmen later, we left Park Corner Bistro and stopped by Offshore Ale House where our friend was working. By some miracle APM was hungry again. And Offshore offers some of the best pizza on the island. Our favorite is the Potato Pizza. Basically potato skins on pizza dough.
I put this pic in because if you look really close you can see the St. Germain glass I got from Jesse. Watch out St. Germain, your stock just went up.
Offshore is a brewing company so I guess we'll show one of their bottled beers.

After this weekend, I will be eating this meal every. single. day. Butter optional.

I didn't care what for. Maybe for the invention of a new kitty litter box, or because I happen to see aliens land and she wanted my "eye-witness" account.

I didn't care.

I just know that I will be very sad come 2011. She is going to start her very own network. Which I imagine will be a good Oprah Winfrey Show replacement, but somehow it just wont be the same.

Collier de Chien Bracelet.

While browsing one of my favorite DYI Blogs, How About Orange, I came across this old post to print and make your very own Hermes Birken Bag. By the time I went to the Hermes website, they had changed their DYI project to the Collier de Chien Bracelet.

Of course I couldn't just post a random make-your-own-bracelet post without first trying it for myself. This is not a quick, let me just pop out a bracelet project. For a silly paper bracelet, it does takes a while to make. But once its done, nobody will be able to tell the real from the fake. (P.S. the previous sentence is a lie)

Taboule is one of the few things I can actually make without instructions AND one of the few things my mom taught me how to make! Maybe she did teach me a thing or two about cooking! Its a great healthy alternative to salad and it the bulgar wheat helps to fill you up. ***Cooking Tip: Putting a cold lime in the microwave for 10 seconds makes the lime juicier. Putting a cold lime in the microwave for 60 seconds because you forgot about it makes the lime explode and scare the crap out of you because it jumps up and hits the inside of the microwave.***

Last weekend I hopped on the Bolt Bus and headed down south to New York City. One of my oldest and dearest friends, Kim, has lived in Manhattan for the past 4 years. I've been promising for 2 years that I would come and visit again. So this past weekend, I finally did. New York is such an amazing city. There is so much to see and do.

On Saturday, I got to experience a little peace of heaven at Mood Fabric. For all you Project Runway fans, this is the fabric store the designers always go to. It was absolutely stupendous. I feel in love with all the fabrics, notions, trims, buttons...

We then continued to shop all over NYC. Blommies had a sale, Anthro was very busy, and Rockefeller Park ice rink was in full swing. One of my friends works at Tommy Hilfiger Corporate so we stopped in at one of their specialty stores, Tommy Hilfiger Fifth Avenue. The top floor was filled with beautiful shoes, coats, purses, dresses, skirts and blouses. I picked up a few things, then we headed home to get ready for a night out. We met up with some friends in the West Village and continued to a few other places.

Sunday we took a fun trip down to the meatpacking district. A very interesting place that I would love to live in if I were to ever move to NYC.* We started at Chelsea Market and had lunch at T Salon. The owner was quite a vibrant woman. Speaking to every. single. person. in her store. However, she made the best darn tuna salad I ever had. I'm not a tuna person. I don't even like mayonnaise, but the name "Tuscan Tuna Salad" sucked me in. It was made with olive oil, olives, capers, and lemon. Delish.

Then we met her friends while they were finishing up brunch. Next we walked along the High Line. An old railroad trellis that used to transport goods such as meat to and from other areas of New York and beyond. Since the meat packing district no longer processes meat, the train system had no use. Mayor Giuliani planned to tear down the tracks but instead, Robert Hammond and Joshua David created a group called "Friends of the High Line." With the help of architects and supporters, the railroad line was transformed into a public garden. The first stage opened last May and they plan to expand it further. Sunday was gorgeous and quite possibly one of the best days to be there.

We finished off the day with some shopping and dinner at Caracas Arepa Bar. I had the
De Pabellón. A fantastic mix of Venezuelan flavors. Shredded beef, black beans, white salty
cheese and sweet plantains. Yum. It was so good and filled me up for the bus ride home.
(I forgot to mention that the shopping consisted of a secret, behind the scenes, pretty sure illegal purchase on Canal Street).
One 4 hour bus ride later, I was back in my beloved Boston.

*I will probably never move to NYC. I have found my love, and his name is Boston.

Cooking Attempt: Coconut Macaroons

Yesterday was my boss' birthday. And in my office, birthdays mean desserts. No doubt about it, on someones birthday there will always be cookies, cupcakes, or candy. In an attempt to make something I was sure my boss would like, I made something she always eats from Au Bon Pain. Chocolate Covered Cranberry Macaroons. I took a recipe from Ina Garten and mixed it with a recipe from Food Network and made some darn good macaroons.

Like I've said in a previous post, cooking is not my specialty. I am attempting all these recipes with no promise of success. Also, with every cooking adventure I will share a cooking tip that I discovered in the process. Sometimes these cooking tips are common sense, but there has to be someone else out there that didn't know these tips, because I sure enough didn't.

***Cooking Tip: Wax paper and parchment paper are NOT the same thing. I repeat, NOT the same thing. I made this mistake. That's why the recipe makes 32 macaroons and I ended up with only 16. The other 16 were coated in wax paper.***

Wonderful Colabos

So Kenny Chesney and Dave Mathews decided to do a music colabo and the result is wonderful. The song they did together is called I'm Alive. It's such a pretty song and it has a good message. Kenny apparently wrote it when him and Renee were breaking up.

(kinda makes me like it a little less, but I'll just pretend I didn't read that article)

Anyhoo...while trolling the Internet I came across this really fun website. You can put in any grouping of words, and it creates a word collage. You can change the color, font, direction of text amongst other things. So I created my own calabo and mixed together Kenny and Dave lyrics with this website. And the result is wonderful.

Doesn't it kinda look like a guitar? It's going in a frame ASAP and gettin' put up.*

The Wang Theatre is a strange place to host Ray Lamontagne. I feel like Ray needs a dark, speak easy type of bar. Not a grand, gilded theatre. None the less, he was amazing. It is really great to watch an artist play their songs that so happen to be your favorites. He even sang You're The Best Thing in a totally different way then the release. He said he was going to sing it the way it was written.

I am extreamly excited about today. I am going to see one of the greatest artist of all time.

I'm not kidding when I say that I love him.

Let me tell you a story....In May of 2006 I went to Martha's Vineyard to waitress just for the summer. Well life happened and by the end of the summer I decided not to go back to law school. Que in my first quarter life crisis. Now, for the first time ever, I didn't know what to do with my life. So I did what any person would do and I went to Aboveground Records. Aboveground Records is a really hip local record store. And here I was, just a measly summer worker, trying to be cool. So I stroll up to the counter and ask the counter guy to suggest an artist that sounds similar to Jack Johnson. So lame! Everybody and their mother was listing to Jack by then and it was basically like asking to recommend and artist similar to Britney Spears. But low and behold, he pulls out the following CD. And my life has never been the same. Not only does Ray remind me of the storybook beginning of APM, but also, my first fall on Martha's Vineyard. The best season on the vineyard. The locals come out of their hiding places and enjoy the vineyard again. 2 for 1 meal deals actually exist and bon fires are all the rage. It's really just all blissful memories when I listen to him. He was my soundtrack of late 2006.

I have since bought all of his CD's(And I mean the actual CD, I haven't been able to catch on to only buying the MP3), and I think you should too.

Dinner Time

I come from a very long line of strong, independent, bright, beautiful women. However, the one trait that no one has seemed to master in my family is cooking.

My dad's mother, who lived through the great depression not to mention worked at the Pentagon, was a strong lady, but my favorite dish of hers was pre packaged little smokies grilled up on Sunday morning.

Then there is my mom's mother. She was an absolutely amazing woman all around. She had her 2 superior dishes, soup and chicken tacos, and that's about it. And, I probably shouldn't admit this, since my mother is a dietitian, but she was not the chef in our house growing up. I distinctly remember making my mom very happy when i turned 16 so now I could drive to the "TO GO" window to pick up dinner on nights when it was her turn to "cook."

I've decided to break this tradition. Now I'm on a quest to cook one recipe a week. Doesn't seem so bad, but just getting the ingredients together is the hardest part. I'm starting with this Wild Mushroom Bread Pudding from epicurious.com.

The "after" picture doesn't look that great, but let me tell you, this dish was AMAZING! I was really impressed with the finished project. Maybe I'll even make it for Thanksgiving dinner.

And maybe that one woman in my family who cooked dinner every night is smiling down on me. :)

**** I do have to give a side note here. My dad is a wonderful cook. He made us dinner most nights and I always loved his meals. He did teach me a thing or two but I found running around with the neighborhood kids more entertaining then cooking.

***Update ***Cooking Tip: When you cook mushrooms, they sweat, A LOT. It's kinda weird. I wouldn't expect mushrooms to be huge water retainers but they sure are. Just keep that in mind when cooking with mushrooms.***

So I promise my friends and I aren't some crazy heavy drinkers but for some reason 5 girls dressed up as cute 40oz beers seemed like a good idea. Last weekend we had a rousing good time at a Halloween party in (wait for it...) Taunton, MA. It's apparently quite and event. (Check it out here.) Just so you know, a Taunton party can pull quite a crowd, and apparently its filled with a lot of creative people. The costumes were great, and if I didn't think that ours was the best, then I probably would have taken pictures of other people.

However, I was not the only one who thought we were great, because we won 3rd place in the costume contest! Yay for us....The prize? 3 baseball caps, 7 coozies, 15 key chains, and $150 later we were very happy ladies.

P.S. Please say a prayer for Tia Nydia, its much needed today.

So This Is Bliss....

I've finally done it, started my own blog, and I could not be more excited. To stick with the theme, I'll start with 5 things that I just find absolutely Blissful.

1.) Rain. Maybe growing up in Florida has made me appreciate the rain, but I just have the greatest time sitting inside and listening to it. Like Kenny Chesney says, "There's something sexy about the rain."
2.) Gut wrenching laughter. So cliche but so true. For some reason, when I get together with my family and friends, I get that laugh so hard till it hurts thing.
3.) Canollis. BEST. DESSERT. EVER!
4.) Catching the sunset when you didn't plan on it.
5.) St John. I had the opportunity to visit a friend there last winter, and you just get a different feeling when you're there.
